Practice checklists are handed out to students every week in class.
There are two sides to each checklist: a list of what their assignments are for the week, and a worksheet that reinforces concepts learned in class.
Scans of the checklist can be found on your student's Google Classroom page.

Please make sure your student completes the checklist and you sign it prior to their next class.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I understand that students are busy, and are unable to practice every day. The checklist is a way for them to track what we learned in class and to aid them at home. It is also a way for me to track what they are practicing, and to identify any areas of weakness or misconceptions to better aid their understanding.
I recommend that students practice 10-15 minutes every day for 6 days a week: the more they practice, the more they will improve on their instrument.

  • Students should practice 2 measures at a time
  • They should begin by:
    1. Counting the rhythm
    2. Saying the note names
    3. Saying the note names and moving their fingers of their left hand like they are playing an invisible instrument
    4. Pizzicato
    5. Arco bow
  • Once they can play those 2 measures, they move on to the next 2 measures
  • Once they can play those 2 groups of 2 measures separately, they should put them together
  • They continue steps 1-5 in 2 measures groups until they have learned the entire piece
